For that, thank you so much, we're glad you've been a part of our journey. And now you're seeing us grow to new heights! BPI started on this platform, and it’s where many of our earliest conversations, ideas, and posts lived. Over time, the project grew, and so did what we wanted this space to be. We needed a home that could hold not just posts, but conversations, community, and everything BPI is becoming. So we’ve moved. The Ballerina Project India now lives on Substack. In our last posts, we explored what ballet means to different people. Today, let’s dive into its fascinating history and evolution.
Ballet began over 500 years ago in Renaissance Italy. It started as an elaborate court dance for the elite, featuring grand gowns and jewelry. When Catherine de Medici married into the French royal family, she brought ballet to France. Under her and King Louis XIV’s patronage, ballet evolved into the structured art form we know today, complete with its five basic positions.
